By Dr. Michelle Barr, Host of The Move Show

I’m Dr. Michelle Barr—spiritual coach, counselor, former crisis and trauma therapist—and every day I witness the same truth unfold in the lives of the people I serve: so often, we are the very thing standing between where we are and where we’re meant to be.

If you’re feeling that tug—the transition you can’t ignore, the inner nudge you keep pushing aside—you’re in exactly the right place.

In my work and in my book Loving What’s Next: What You Want Can Be Yours Now, I teach a five-step process designed to help you move through change with clarity, courage, and joy. These aren’t just lessons from theory. They’re born from my life, my clients, and thousands of moments where spirit redirected me in ways I didn’t expect—but always for my highest good.

Step 1: Embrace the Shift
Change isn’t the enemy. It’s the invitation. The truth is, we are wired to cling to the familiar—even when the familiar is what’s holding us back. Our brain and nervous system say, “We know how to survive this. Don’t rock the boat.” But everything you desire lives in the unknown.
When something in your life begins to wobble or fall away, instead of bracing, try opening. I’ve lived this many times. Years ago, when my husband was unexpectedly laid off, fear was loud—but so was my certainty that spirit was working in our favor. That situation reshaped our lives in ways we couldn’t imagine at the time.

Step 2: Release What No Longer Serves You
You can’t swing to the next trapeze while gripping the old one. There is always a moment—sometimes terrifying, sometimes exhilarating—where you must let go. That moment is the portal.
Your fears, your old stories, your inherited patterns… those are counter-intentions. You may set a beautiful intention for what you want, but the quiet voice underneath saying “I’m not worthy,” “It didn’t work before,” or “My family won’t approve” cancels it out. Awareness is everything.

Step 3: Reconnect With Your Desires
Most people lose touch with what they truly want. They talk themselves out of it. They shrink it. They tell themselves it’s unrealistic or selfish.
But if you have a desire, it is yours now. Desire is divine communication. It’s guidance. It’s blueprint.

Step 4: Create a Clear Vision
I teach a simple five-minute-a-day visioning practice: feel into the future you’re becoming. Not with hope or longing, but with the vibrational readiness of already having it. See it, sense it, step into it.

Step 5: Take Inspired Action
Action does not create what you want—it brings it to you. You must move first, and then the universe meets you with momentum. Just like riding a pedal-assist e-bike: the more you pedal, the more support shows up.

You are always either moving toward what you most desire—or away from it.
Whatever you are not changing, you are choosing.
And you, my friend, are ready to choose what’s next.
Take a breath. Place your hand over your heart. Whisper it with me:
I embrace the shift. I release what no longer serves. I reconnect with my desires. I create a clear vision. I take inspired action.
Your next chapter is already here. Let’s move.
